Reflecting on an extraordinary week from NYC premiere glamour to BBC Radio interviews – and everything in between
What a week it’s been! As I sit here with a proper cup of tea, still processing the whirlwind that was the final Downton Abbey movie launch, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for this incredible journey that began as a simple food blog 15 years ago.
The New York Premiere: September 8th
The excitement began at the New York premiere, where Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale truly dazzled on the red carpet. Standing among fellow fans and media, I couldn’t help but think about how far we’ve all come since that first episode aired in 2010, how we covered the event.
From Cinema Seat to BBC Radio: September 11th
The most surreal moment came three days later: settling into my cinema seat when my phone buzzes with a BBC Radio interview invitation – and they wanted me on air in 30 minutes!
Fifteen years ago, my husband (my “blue blood” for his British aristocratic heritage) and I were simply viewers. Today, I found myself on BBC Radio as a published cookbook author, discussing Downton’s culinary world.
The journey from casual viewer to writing Abbey Cooks Entertain, which was written during 3 am editing sessions with John Lunn’s excellent score as my soundtrack, still feels like a dream. The interview’s most amusing moment? We both got completely confused about “jugged hare”! There’s something wonderfully British about stumbling over traditional recipes on live radio. Read more about that here.
Fleurs de Villes: A Private Botanical Journey
The week’s final adventure took me to Burlington for a private tour of Fleurs de Villes: Downton Abbey at the Royal Botanical Gardens. Walking through installations that capture Downton’s grandeur through flowers was like stepping into the show itself.
Each display told a story – from servants’ quarters to the grand drawing room – all interpreted through blooms. The attention to detail was remarkable, reinforcing why Downton Abbey has resonated so deeply with audiences worldwide. Read about my experience here
Reflecting on the Journey
What began as sharing Mrs. Patmore’s recipes has evolved into red carpet coverage, radio interviews, and exclusive exhibit previews. But at its heart, Downton Abbey Cooks has always been about community, history, and discovering stories within stories.
The finale may have premiered, but our love for this world continues. There are still recipes to explore, traditions to uncover, and stories to tell.
Still Time to Enter!
Don’t forget – there’s still time to enter our contest! Join the celebration, and you could be part of the Downton Abbey legacy. Entry details and deadline information are available in previous posts.
Thank you for joining me on this incredible journey. From watching the pilot with a cup of tea to standing on red carpets and speaking on BBC Radio – none of it would have been possible without your support.
