Thanksgiving Treats for Dogs: A Simple Recipe

downtonabbeycooks · November 8, 2024 ·

As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s the perfect time to include your furry friend in the festivities with homemade dog treats. Our easy recipe uses simple, dog-safe ingredients: whole wheat flour, pumpkin purée, and peanut butter. These ingredients not only create a delicious snack but also offer nutritional benefits for your dog.

Ingredients and Benefits

  • Whole Wheat Flour: A great source of fiber and nutrients, whole wheat flour is ideal for creating treats that are both tasty and beneficial for your dog’s digestion.
  • Pumpkin Purée: Packed with vitamins and fiber, pumpkin purée is excellent for maintaining a healthy digestive system. Its natural sweetness makes it a favorite among dogs.
  • Peanut Butter: Ensure you use unsweetened, xylitol-free peanut butter. It’s rich in protein and healthy fats, making it a nutritious addition to these treats.

Easy-to-Make Recipe

Mix these ingredients into a dough, roll it out, and cut into fun shapes. Bake until golden brown for a crunchy treat your dog will love. Not only are these treats healthy, but they also make an excellent gift for fellow dog lovers during the holiday season.

Including your pet in Thanksgiving celebrations with these homemade treats ensures they enjoy the holiday as much as you do!

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F.
  • In a large bowl, mix together eggs, cinnamon, pumpkin, flour, salt and peanut butter. This mixture will become stiff, dry and crumbly really quickly when first mixing.
  • Add a little bit of water to help moisten the ingredients, then you will be able to work and knead the dough. Only add a tablespoon or so as you go. You want the dough to end up being a dry and thick consistency.
  • Roll out on parchment paper to 1/2" thickness and use a cookie stamp, like dog bone.
  • Bake for 40 minutes.
